Principal’s Message

Dear Somerset Families,

Welcome to the start of the 2017-2018 school year! It is hard to believe that summer break has officially come to an end.  You will notice some changes in and around our school.  Mary Smyth has accepted a position in our District Office, and I have the honor of serving as your Principal.  Please welcome Charley Campbell as our new Assistant Principal.  We also welcome Bianca Colindres, Christian Ruiz, Kerry Sjelin, Onna Dennis, and Angie Thompson to our teaching team.

We recently had all-way stops installed at the intersection of Floyd Ave. and Vicky Dr. and the intersection of Floyd Ave. and Newport Dr. These will certainly help our students safely cross the road.  We will continue with safety patrol after school at the crosswalk at Floyd/Modesto Covenant Church.  Remember, the speed limit is 15 mph in front of the school and all students need to use the crosswalks on Floyd Ave.  These additions will be reviewed with students as we collectively strive to be Responsible, Problem Solvers, and Safe.

I look forward to meeting students at the 6th grade/new student orientation and seeing all students on August 10th, our first day of school.  Please do not hesitate to ask questions as they arise.  We are here to support you and your child.

Lisa Ferguson

Spotlight on Sports

Somerset has many fall sports including soccer, volleyball, cross country and flag football.

If your child is interested in participating in one of our fall sports this year, information on eligibility, how to sign up, and meetings will be shared in advisory class.

Did you Know?

A great way to connect to school is through clubs. Somerset has several after school clubs including: art, CJSF, mine craft, wood shop,  honors society, and more.

It’s a Fact:

All sixth graders have the opportunity to attend Outdoor Education at Foothill Horizons during the month of October.

Counselors’ Corner

Monika Teves serves as Somerset’s full time counselor.

Some of the upcoming counseling services she is scheduling are: classroom guidance and academic lessons, individual and small group counseling, social skills, and conflict mediation.

Look for her at the counseling table at Back to School Night.

PTSA's Post

There will be a planning meeting for the PTSA on Tuesday, August 29 at 6:00PM in the library.
